JustRite Friday Challenge #066: Sketch

It has been quite some time since I have participated in a JustRite Friday Challenge. My cousin is pregnant with a little girl so I thought I'd get her card made that I'll send with the baby gifts and this week's sketch challenge gave me the boost I needed. Here's a peek at the sketch...

And here's my take on the sketch...

As you can see, I rotated the sketch and made my card vertical instead of horizontal. Do you see that Chevron background? I was sooooo excited when JustRite released some new background stamps and as soon as Scrap-Mart got the Chevron in stock I grabbed it! Now, my love for this stamp could very well have something to do with the fact that the sample on the packaging is pink, but I love it nonetheless. So, I cut my cardbase using some Pretty in Pink SU! cardstock then stamped the Chevron Background onto some white cardstock and trimmed it down. I decided that it needed a decorative border so I pulled out my Spellbinders Classic Bracket Edgeabilities and the new Classic Decorative Inserts One. I cut the border on a separate piece of cardstock then trimmed and added my Chevron piece to it. The decorative insert I used actually has more to it but the pierced scallops is all I wanted to show. Here's a closer view of the bordered edge...

Before adhering my border layer to the card base, I added some crinkled ribbon trim. I topped the bow off with a button and some heart pins. Next, I stamped my image from JustRite's Just Ducky cling set and colored it with my Copic Markers. I cut it out using my Spellbinders Circle Nestabilities (S4-116)then masked and airbrushed the background before removing it from the die. For the sentiment, I used the 'Special Delivery' stamp from the Just Because Set. It was cut and embossed using the pennant from the Spellbinders Lacey Pennants set and tucked under the bow.

You still have time to get in on this week's challenge. And if you miss it, they'll post another one this Friday.

Handmade Handbag

For those of you who don't know, I have a handbag addiction. I LOVE a new handbag. While brainstorming for my projects for the Spellbinders design team call I thought I would try to make a handmade handbag from paper. Here's a peek at how it turned out...

I thought the white on white would be chic and it made me think of Spring and the clean, new beginnings it brings. This project was super fun to make and a lot easier than you might think. I am sharing the rest of the pics and how to create it on the Scrap-Mart blog today. I hope you'll join me there to see how it's done.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hello friends, long time no blog. The stamp show in Atlanta was great and I had a fantastic time visiting my friends Joyce and Larry. I got to meet some of their dearest friends and a few of their kids. Let me just say (again)that I am so blessed to have met them. They are truly wonderful people. Next month, I get to see Kay again. Kay is Joyce's sister and I met them both for the first time at the Heirloom Stamp Show in Indy last year. What a wonderful benefit of my job...meeting new friends.

Yesterday Spellbinders announced their2012 Design Team. If you missed it you can view the post HERE. I am sad to say I did not make the design team but realize what an accomplishment it was to have made it to the third round. I recognize many of the names of this year's designers and have to tell you what an honor it was to have been narrowed down into the final level of competition with these women. I am still a HUGE Spellbinders fan and am super excited to see what the new designers create to share with us all this year. Congratulations to the 2012 Spellbinders Design Team. I wish you all the very best!

Now that the contest is over I can share with you the projects I created for the competition. This card was actually my second round entry. I am sharing them out of order because my card has a love theme and today is Valentine's Day. :)

I started by creating the base using the die cutting on the fold technique with my Grand Circles in my Grand Calibur machine. Next I cut and embossed a slightly larger Grand Big Scallop Circle and adhered it to my round card base. Using my Grand Circles again, I cut two circles from different patterned papers and trimmed and fit them together to layer inside my big scallop. The seam where the two papers meet was covered with some crinkled ribbon and tied into a bow on the side. Next I added the largest Scallop Heart Nestabling directly to the card base. Using the Fancy Tags Two die template, I cut a tag, stamped my sentiment from JustRite's Victorian Nested Frames set, and finished it off with Fancy Tags Two Nestabling in black. I finished the card off by adding two flowers made using Spellbinders Spiral Blossom One, both sprinkled with glitter, and a few sprigs from the Foliage die template set.

I hope you all have a fantastic Valentine's Day!

Boss Kut Design Team Call

Hello and happy Monday! Did you watch the Super Bowl yesterday? I did, a little. I'm not a big football person, but I was in Atlanta, GA for the Lawrenceville Heirloom show and stayed with a friend who hosted a super fun Super Bowl party! Lots of good food and friendship...what more could one ask for!

I have made the difficult, personal decision to voluntarily step down from the Boss Kut Design Team. I can't say enough wonderful things about John and Phyllis, the owners of Boss Kut. They have a strong desire to bring quality products and exceptional customer service to the craft industry. John and Phyllis, as well as their team, go above and beyond to care for each customer's individual needs. I'd like to thank them for the invitation to join the Boss Kut Gazelle Design Team. The past year and a half have been wonderful and I am grateful for their support.

Now, design team leader Judy is on the look out for someone to fill my shoes PLUS they are also seeking some designers to join the Quilting/Applique team. Be sure to visit the Boss Kut blog HERE to read the details on what they are looking for and how to apply.

When I left Georgia, I stopped in Mississippi for a few days to see my mom. And, when I return I have my daughter's birthday party to handle, complete with a sleepover! A house full of 5 and 6 year olds is sure to be fun! hehe I will be back to blogging next week!

Mini Treat Bag

Have you seen the mini paper bags from Canvas Corp? They are so cute and just the right size for a few little treats. Here's a fun little mini treat bag I whipped up for Shelby...

I used some new Boss Kut files and my Gazelle to embellish the bag. First, I sized the new Card Band so that it would completely wrap my bag and cut it. Next, I sized and cut the new Pop Kut Love Bug pieces. After adhering the band I added a bit of Want2Scrap bling under the ladybug. I finished it off with some alpha stickers. Here's a closer view of the pop kut wings...

Now, I can tuck some little treats in her bag and add it to her backpack or lunch box with a little note. That's sure to make anyone's day! Oh, here's a thought...have an older child? Add a bit of magnet to the back of the bag and stick it inside their locker at school! Fun huh?!

Thursday Sketch Inspiration: Match made...for MY craft room!!

It's no secret that I am a BIG fan of Page Maps. I use Becky's sketches (and share them) often. I also LOVE Spellbinders products. So you can only imagine how happy I was to hear that the two of them have formed a partnership. Each month Becky will release a new set of exclusive Page Maps dies and will share ideas for use of the dies in her sketches. Fabulous!!

Here's February's release...

And here's one of my favorite sketches for February...

Now for the exciting part....there's only 4 online retailers carrying these dies and Scrap-Mart is one of them!! Woohoo! February's dies are in and you can purchase them HERE.

DIY Valentines

Is it just me or have DIY projects soared over the last year? With places like Etsy and Pinterest there's plenty of inspiration. I saw some cute printable Valentine's and thought, I can do that. And with the help of my Gazelle, it was super easy to do!

I started by sizing my tag and creating the sentiment using the text function. I placed the sentiment where I wanted it on the tag then changed the colors of the two items. After inserting my paper into my Gazelle, I took out the blade housing and put in a glitter pen. By multiplying the design then cutting by color, I was able to do all my text then replace the blade and cut the tags with ease. Next I cut the bird peices and assembled them all. To finish it off, I added a googly eye to the bird and some twine for the top of the tag. I left the back open so Shelby can sign it for her friends.
